Herkimer Elementary students, staff, parents and community members donated personal care items for the effort, which assembles “comfort bags” to be given to local patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment.

This is the second year Herkimer Elementary has participated in the chemo bag drive, collecting enough items for close to 500 bags, according to elementary teacher Dawn McCumber. McCumber’s students helped her organize the donations before they were put into bags.

“Many smiles will be put on faces as these bags are delivered and I feel blessed we are able to shine a little bit of sunshine on the lives of others that are struggling with this terrible disease,” McCumber said.
