District to welcome school resource officer

Police officer, woman and man in tie

The Herkimer Central School District Board of Education recently welcomed School Resource Officer Shauna Jones to the district.

Herkimer Police Chief Michael Jory introduced Jones at the board’s Aug. 17 meeting.

The village and school board both approved the one-year agreement, which shares the cost of Jones’ salary equally between the village and district.

“We have been working towards this goal for many years and we are glad it has finally come to fruition,” Superintendent Robert J. Miller said.

As school resource officer, Jones will work with administrators in the elementary and Jr./Sr. High School buildings to assist with truancy and other issues. She will also work with students and teachers on anti-drug curriculum, and will support the district’s D.A.R.E. program.

Jones’ contract with the district will begin in September.
