The HES steel band consists of members from grades 5 & 6 who are interested in learning to play the Caribbean steel drum. Basic steel drum techniques and rhythms are taught throughout the school year. Currently Herkimer Elementary steel band has 25 members and meets every Monday afterschool from 2:30-3:30. Public performances are given during the holiday season for are residence of the Folts Home and various community events. This year the steel band presented music at the Herkimer VFW United Way Chicken BBQ fundraiser on Nov. 18th. In addition, we are scheduled for a Dec 21st. performance at the Folts Home at 10:30- 11:15 a.m. This spring senator Seward has invited the steel band to perform at the NY State Capitol building on April 25th at 11:00. We are very hononed to have this great opportunity to learn and share this cultural music of Trinidad with the people of our community. Congratulations HES steel band. Mr.Traglia
