(New Message)
Blog #3: In the play "A Raisin in the Sun" by Lorraine Hansberry, the Younger family has
just lost two thirds of the insurance money and put a down payment on a house in a neighborhood where they are not welcome. If you were Big Walter (Lena's deceased husband) and could communicate with not only Lena, but also Walter, Beneatha, Ruth and Travis, what advice or comments would you make to each of them at this time.
I would tell them not to worry. As long as they stick together everything will be alright. I would tell Walter it was stupid to go dehind everybody's back and trust and untrustworthy man...but I tell him i still love him. I'd tell Ruth that she should keep the baby because it's still part of our family. I would tell Travis to help out around the house, and I would tell Beneatha that she shouldn't change for any man because they should love her for who she is, not only what her body looks like.
(New Message)go out and find the guy that took your money. then when u get it back put it all in the bank. but if you dont find him get a job and put 1/3 of it in the bank to start a saveings account for your little girl. also move in to that house and dont be scared. you need to stand up for your self and all the other black familys moveing in to a wight niberhood.
If I was Big Walter I and could comunicate with everyone, I would keep my answers short. I would tell my son to stop being stupid and to think all of his decisions out before he makes them and to stop making the rest of his family miserable. He needs to grom up.

I would remind Beneatha that she is NOT from Africa. She was born and raised in the United States and needs to grom up as well. No one cares about her over-rightous speeches about being assimilated when she was born and raised in North America.

Ruth I would tell her thta she needs to keep the family together, and that giving up the baby now would be the most dreadful mistake of her life.

Finally, I would let Travis know that he should stay as he is, for he is the only guarenteed future for the Younger family name, and he needs to rise above all these situations that life has dealt him.
You guys are dumb. Why woud you give away the money to a dumb idea? You should have saved the money, and put it in the bank. Dont throw away the money I gave you. And dont hesitate to move into the neighborhood. So what if it is an all white community? Yes, they might stare at you and give you dirty looks. But you should be able to live wherever you want without people judging you. I'm sure it's a beautiful house, and your spending alot of money on it . . Well at least the money you have left. So like I said, don't worry about everyone else. Worry about yourselves and everyone in the family. If you think its a terrible decision, than don't do it. And if the only reason why you don't want to move in is because your black and everyone else is white, then your dumb. If you have an actual good idea why you shouldn't move then don't. But if you absolutely love the house, go for it.
In the play "A Raisin in the Sun" by lorraine Hansberry, the Younger family lost their insurance money and now have no money left. The family has been waiting for that money for a long time. The Younger's now have to pay for a new house and pay for Beneatha's college some other way. If I was Big Walter or if Big Walter could communicate with Beaneatha, Walter, Lena, or Travis he would probably be very upset and feel let down. Big Walter would have wanted the family to save the money and not put it in the hands of a low life individual such as Willy Harris. He would have never trusted him and Walter shoudn't have either.
At last, Big Walter would wish the family luck in their new house and hope that all goes well living in a neighborhood with all white people. He would want the best for the family and hope they get money some other way.
If I were Big Walter and could communicate with not only Lena, but also Walter, Beneatha, Ruth and Travis, the advise i would give to each of them is to respect Lena on her decision on what she wants to do with the money instead of acting like a bunch of babies and telling her that she doesnt care about them just because she didn't spend the money the way they wanted to spend it.
If I were Big Walter I would tell Walter not to invest the money in the liqour store. I would warn him about what could happen. I would tell Beneatha to stop taking lessons for for everything and save some of the money for medical school. I would tell Ruth to keep the baby, and Lena could save some of the money to help take care of the child. I would tell Travis to stop bothering Beneatha and help Ruth now that she is pregnant.
the comments i would make to the family in A Raisin in the Sun aren't ones you wouldnt normally want to hear. If i was big Walter I would tell Lena that she is doing a very good job with the children in means of raising them since their her grand kids. Lena is the most responsible and the most wise one in the household. I would then tell Walter that he is not so smart in what he has done with a good amount of the money and he needs to start taking a little more responsibility to raising his children. Beneatha is the little girl that should be treated the same as the whole family and has a great personality. Ruth is Walter's wife and is a wise and intelligent woman. Travis is the son of Ruth and Walter and is still kind of a litle kid by the way he acts
If I were Big Walter I would tell the family first to move into the new house and not worry to much over the money, because what happened in the past happened and there is no changing that. Second, I would give Walter the rough side of my tounge!
Hi! My childeren Walter and Beneatha don't feel sad Walter about what happened because it is not all your folt, but still why would you give yous sister's money away like that. Beneatha dont hate your brouther for what he did because he was looking out for his famliy and he is the only brother you have. To Ruth i now you proble hate your husbened, but he did what he did for you and the famliy. Travis i miss you the most, but you proble don't get why ever one is mad at your dad. So promis me that you will not wore about it just be a kid and do what kids do.
if i was big walter i would say that i missed my wife very much because she really hasnt done anything wrong i would tell her to stay stronge and to not let anything break her in the new neighboor hood.
an i would also tell travis that i missed him an to keep up with the good work because he is just an inosent boy who has not done one thing wrong an that the hat he bought grandma is very beautiful. an to not let age change his inoccents.
as for my son walter i am very dissapointed in him. it was very childish to throw all thoughs fit its not the boy i raised him to be to throw fits like a little five year old girl thats not my son. an as for the liqour store. it was a very bad decision. but there nothing you can do about it now i mean you have to liver with that discion for the rest of your life thats punishment enough. now you should try to move forward with your life an prove to your family your the man i raised you to be. dont get stuck in the past. look to a better an brighter future.
beneatha stop being so god forsaken selfish an doing something for everyone elsa for once stop being a quiter an be a achiver. finish something out for once in your life. dont just stop in the middle and quit because its to hard. an finish doctor school an find your self a nice man an marry him an liver happy with that man.
ruth you are doing everything right you dont really need my advice you need to start giving the advice because you have the capability to give advice.
well i hope my advice was helpful to everyone. talk to all of you later.
Dear Bennie,
You need to be strong. it may seem like every one is against your choice to become a doctor but you have my faith in you and also that boy from africa...he seems to put great faith into you. dont give up even though you might think you need the money to make your dreams come true, you dont.

Dear Lena,
All my life i have not been able to give you the money you deserved. now even after my life is over i am not able to. you and i have raised a thick headed boy. but dont lose faith in him. good lord willing will help you through. he has alot a faith in your boy, as do i. i trust he will do right to his wrong.
If i was Big Walter i would tell the family to move into the house. i would tell them that they have as much right to that house as anyone elts. First if i was talking to Lena i would say that i know that what she decieds to do is right for the family. I would talk to Walter and ask him why he would do this that money was supposed to be for the hole family. That money was going to get beneatha through college. that money was also supposed to secure there future.i would tell Walter that i am very disapionted. When talking to beneatha i would say that she is working hard and to keep working for her dream. I would tell Ruth that she is a great mother and even though walter is going through a tough time to stick with him through it. I would talk to Travis and tell him to stay inline not to get into the wrong crowed. I would also tell them all I love them very much.
if i was big walter and i could speak beyond the grave to my family i would probably say first something about the welcoming commity guy person thing. then i would say something to walter about how moronic he was to trust some person with that large amount of $$money$$. then i would tell mama how i miss her and want to see her.

in the end i would come back to see ruth when the welcoming commity guy person thing came to the new house. and i would say get the **** out of my family's god **** house or i will haunt you for all eternity (: (: Smiley so yeah
If I were Big Walter and could communicate with everyone in the family I would give everyone in the family some advice. I would tell Walter that he did good in his dealing with Mr. Linder and to keep acting that way instead of a child. To Ruth I would tell her she made the right choice in keeping the baby. To Travis I would tell him to help out more around the house and to follow the new example set by his father. To Lena I would say that she had the right idea in giving Walter more responsibilty, but she shouldn't have trusted him with something as important as the money so soon. I would tell Beneatha to keep with her dream of becoming a doctor and think about the Asagai proposition.

I do have to agree with you, but what would you tell the rest of the family? C'mon 'Lord Dhoom,' you can be a bit more creative and less lazy than that can you?

I'm just teasing you though, and I one hundred percent agree that what is done is done and the family should move on.
In the play "A Raisin in the Sun" by Lorraine Hansberry, the Younger family has just lost two thirds of the insurance money and put a down payment on a house in a neighborhood where they are not welcome. They Are not welcome beause they moved into the white neighborhood becasue it was cheaper. Big Walter Gives everyone the same advice because they shouldnt let people put them down and tell them where they belong. So they just need to stand tall and not let people get in there way.

Hello!! Bryce Gallegher

I agree with you with your interpretation of being Big Walter. He should also be nice to the family and wish them luck in finding a new way to find money. He should tell the truth about what he thinks ,but also should hope they do well in their lives. I also think that Walter should be yelled at for putting all the insurance money in the hands of a "crazy loser". Thank you!

i agree because they're all acting like a bunch of whiny babies just because she wanted to buy a house, and not getting what they want. i think Lena should tell everybody how she feels.

I agree because if they dont stick together and help each other out things could fall apart

I agree with ever word you said no women should ever change for any man. Beneatha should sick with her dream and become a doctor. Walter should know that he is not on everyones good side right now, and Lena should take the family to the house because they deserve to have a home of there own like every other family.

I agree with this becasue they are all fighting over different ways to spend the money they should sit down and maybe discuss what to do with the money instead of just throwing it all away.

I think it is important for Beneatha to become a doctor because she could help the family in many ways.
