Blog 1: Writing at least two paragraphs describe why George and Lennie's relationship is such such a rare thing? or Discuss the situation of Candy and his dog. Do you feel the men should put pressure on Candy to shoot his dog? Should Candy shoot his dog? Should people kill their pets when they are old and sick?

Personally, I don't think that people should shoot their pets if the pet is sick and dying. I mean like would you like to be shot if you were sick and dying? I think that a pet is like a person in the family. It's part of you. Like some people can't live without their pet or pets. Like an old person or a old couple. I know if I had a pet, I wouldn't want it to be shot if it was sick. I would keep my pet around as long as I could.
They shouldn't kill Candy's dog just because its old. Candy has had that dog since it was a puppy, so he shouldn't be pressured to shoot his dog. It's his decision. Candy loves that dog more than anything. I dont think he should do it. It would make him feel horrible and very upset.

I guess in the book they think Lennie and George have a weird relationship. They think something is going on between them, just because they travel all over together. People think its not right and its kind of gay. I think two guys should be able to hang out and not have to worry about what people say about them. I know alot of guys that hang out with eachother, and there not gay. George and Lennie are best friends. Even though George yells at Lennie alot, he still cares about him. He takes care of Lennie because no one else will.
the relationship between intelligent but weak George Milton and the retarded but strong Lennie Small is the focal point of Steinbeck's novella, and a surface reading strongly suggests that "friendship" or "personal commitment" is one of this work's salient themes. As the half witted Lennie dutifully intones, the two men are distinguished from all of the other characters in the story "because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that's why." The initial interview by the ranch boss underscores the unusual quality of this bond, and the jerkline
I wouldn't want to kill my pet if it was sick or old. I still believe it's a piece of the family either way. So i highly disagree with killing pet's or any animals in that matter. I don't find it right. To kill an innocent animal just because it's sick or old. It's just not right.
Candy and his relationship with his ancient, reeking dog are important in the book for exactly who you don’t want to be. Candy has spent the best years of his life working on someone else’s ranch, only to lose his hand and have little money. Given these circumstances, Candy’s dog is all he has left that is his.
I believe George and Lennie’s friendship is so unique and rare is accountable of several reasons. One of which is that George is the weaker of the two because she is short. He is also smart and quick thinking. But on the other hand Lennie is the stronger of the two he is tall and jacked. But he is mentally retarded so he has George help him out with moral decisions. While Lennie acts as George’s body guard. They are like peanut butter and jelly they aren’t anything with out each other.
Candy and his dog are a lot like George and Lennie. They have been extremely close for as long as Candy can remember. But now since he’s older…the dog is a lot older too. And it’s sick. The men are pressuring Candy to kill his dog because he’s old and suffering. Even though he doesn’t want to, Candy decides to let Slim kill his dog.
I honestly believe Candy shouldn’t shoot his dog. It’s like murdering it. It’s heartbreaking. In my opinion people should never kill they’re dogs just because they are old or sick. The only way I would agree to that is if the dog’s veterinarian says that the dog has to be put to sleep. I would never shoot my dog just because it’s old. That’s horrible.
the rare thing about Lennie and George's friendship is that Lennie is big but slow and stupid and george is small but quick and smart which makes these guys very unique friends. Lennie in the book is according to george, george's nephew and george looks out for lennie throughout their lives. when trouble lurks through to them, lennie is told to not do anything and just go find somewhere to hide. George is the guy that calls out all the shots and talks for lennie in situations so that lennie doesnt blow their cover. Lennie and George travel from weed to a different farm to make money so that they can go buy their own farm to live on.
George and Lennie's relationship is such a weird thing because it was weird that two men traveled together. The situation between Candy and his dog was that Silm wanted to shoot Candy's dog because he smelled so badly and he was old and couldn't do to much. So after a while Candy agreed and Slim went into the woods and shot him while Candy was in his room laying on his bed starring at the ceiling. I don't feel the men should put pressure on Candy to shoot his dog, because if he really wanted to do that then he would do it with out any other peoples opions. I do not think Candy should shoot his dog because just because the dog is old and smelly you shouldn't let him end his life short. This can be either way because if your dog is sick and is living a painful life then you should contact a vet "NOT SHOOT HIM", but if your dog is just old no one should kill him thats the time to want to spoil them the most so i agree and disagree with this.
The men should not put pressure on Candy to shoot his dog. Candy should not shoot his dog because he has had him since he was a pup and I think he will regret it later. I think that people should let their dogs die naturally, even if they are old and sick.

George and Lennie's relationship is such a rare thing because two men do not usually travel together. It is rare that Lennie is such a nice guy. It is also different that George cares so much for Lennie.
i think that it was extremly wrong for the men to put pressure on candy. I i think it should of been candy's choice wether or not he wanted to shoot his dog. the fact that they pretty much peir pressured him into doing it makes me sick an very upset. cause it was like his life long compainon an pretty much his only friend on the ranch that he liked. an another thing that made me really mad about this situation is the only reason they wanted to shoot him was because he smelt. I just thought what if you were old an smelt would you think it would be right to just shoot you an thats that. personally i thought it was very wrong for them to shoot the dog an i think it was wrong for candy to let them shoot the dog. I mean if that was my dog i would of been like over my dead body you can shoot me first cause you aren't getting to my dog. An as for the hole situation on if i think if its ok to shoot your dog or to put them down when they are sick an old. I also dont think that is right i would never shoot my dog ever in a million years. I feel that my pets wether it be a dog or cat, i think they are like little family members who just cant talk. An i think it is morally wrong for someone to just shoot there dog that is never ok in my book ever. Putting them down i only think is right if there is no other option to save them an they are in extreme pain. Other than that nope none of that is ok to me an honestly if i ever saw someone doing that or heard about it god help that person cause im most likely going to hurt because thats so wrong an should of never been allowed even in the nineteen thirtys.
Lennie and George's relationship is rare. Guys rarely traveled together in the 1930's. One of the only time guys would travel together during this time was for money. In this kind of relationship both guys work but only one guy gets the money. Normally guys didn't travel together just to look after each other. It is different with Lennie and George. Their relationship is more like two brothers. George is like Lennie's older brother.

I do not think the men should put pressure on candy to shoot his dog. If the dog is suffering then it should be put down. People should only kill their pets if the pet is in extreme suffering. It would be better for the pet to be put down at the hand of some one he knows rather than a complete stranger. But what do you think?
Candy had his dog since he was a pup. The other men keep telling Candy to shoot the old dog because they think the old mutt has no good use left for him. But as soon as Carlson mentioned shooting the dog, Candy got stiff. I don't feel like the other men should put so much pressure on Candy to do such an unthinkable thing. I do not think Candy should shoot his dog. In fact I feel very strongly about that. Candy has had this dog forever, he has been the best friend a guy like Candy could ever have. Getting rid of the dog would just leave Candy lonely and sad. Maybe even guilty.

Think of it this way, George is like Candy. George is a care taker of someone with a lesser ability. The old sick dog is just like Lennie. Can't exactly do what every one else can do, and needs someone there to watch them and make sure no one hurts them. Again I think people, no matter what year it is, should not kill their pets. You may think you are helping them, but think of it this way, if you got sick would you want someone bigger than you shoot you down and end your life?
During the novel Of Mice and Men, the workers gang up on Candy to tell him to shoot his old dog due to his old age and his horrible smell. The dog is made out to be approximately nearing twenty years old. The old dog has no teeth and Candy has been bottle feeding him to keep him alive. His joints are old and he can barely move without feeling any kind of pain, and his body exudes a horrific odor. The dog is barely even alive, and if anything, it is probably best for him to be shot. However, the other workers should not have pressured Candy.

Candy has taken care of that dog since it was a puppy, and they have never been apart. However it is Candy's decision on whether or not he should euthenize his dog. The dog is very old and tired, and it is probably the best thing that Candy can do for his dog to end his suffering. It is almost the duty of a pet owner to have their animals put down when they are old and sick. When an animal has lived a long, full, and happy life they should be killed if they become terminaly ill and can barely stay alive. No animal deserves to live half a life. The people shouldn't have pressured the old swamper to shoot his dog, but it is still Candy's responsibility to do what is best for his dog.
Candy and his dog are a lot like George and Lennie. Candy has had his dog ever since he was a puppy and George and Lennie have known each other ever since they were kids, and when you're with one person for so long you begin to love and care for them a lot.
I don't think that the men should have pressured Candy about shooting it becuase it's really up to him because it's his dog not theirs. I don't think people should just kill their pets if they're sick and if they are sick they should at least bring them to the vets or something.
In Of Mice and Men, Candy's dog is very old. Carlson complains that the dog stinks, it has no teeth, and it is stiff with rheumatism. Carlson claims that Candy should kill his dog. I think the only thing stopping Candy is the fact that Candy has had his dog since the dog was a little pup.
I also believe the other men on the ranch should not pressure Candy into shooting his dog. Those of you who have pets would understand. Would you shoot your pet? Even if it was old and pathetic? I think not.
Candy is in the situation that is dog is old and he smells bad. Carlson is saying that the dog is old and cant do much, he should just kill the dog. Candy loves the dog and don't won't to let it go. I dont think that the other guys should be pressuring to kill his dog. I would not like if someone told me that my dog is old and he can't do anything. I would not let anyone kill my dog specialy if it was my best friend.
I dont think that they should have shot the dog because what if it was a person and everytime an old person got sick you shot them. It's just not right. I dont think that it is right to kill your dog if he is just old but if your dog is in pain and is going to die in a very painfull anyway I think that you should put it down. I think that people who just put there animal down because it is old there must be something wrong with them.
Candy and his dog have had a long relationship together. They have been together since the dog was a puppy. The situation between Candy and his old dog should be no one elses problem. The other men should not have interfered with the two of them. Carlson told Candy that his old dog was too old to be around and smelled horrible. Candy agreed, but felt bad saying it. The love between the old sheep dog and Candy could not be broken but, with the pressure Candy fell in. A man and a dog are suppost to be best freinds. You should not shoot your dog even if it is really old. IT is against the LAW! You are suppost to let a lying dog lay. Don't force the dog or someone else to do something you think is right but, morrily wrong and horrible. When Carlson took Candy's dog Candy just starred at the ceiling and felt mortified. Candy should not have allowed anyone to kill his dog. Would you ever do that? I sure hope not. A few minutes went by when George, Candy, and Lennie heard the shot and the tone of the book changed to be morrily sad.
When a dog or any animal is just old you shouldn't kill it. What if it was a person? What if it was your dog? You? If something was really wrong with the sheepdog you should have taken it to the vet or just let it rest. There was nothing wrong with the poor dog, if the dog had an issue let nature take its course.
George and Lennie's relationship is so rare because you never or rarely see two guys walk around together in the 1930's. A lot of men back then don't walk together at all because they just jump from job to job. Also George were friends before they worked on the ranch because George knew Lennie's aunt before she died and she told George to take care of Lennie before she passed away. They have been friends even after that and even though Lennie got them in trouble a lot. Lennie was just like a little kid and looked up to George as a big brother.

The situation of Candy and his dog is that Candy's dog is smell, blind, and old. Also Candy had that dog when it was a puppy. I thinck that they should because the dog was old and really smelly so the dog need to be put out of his misery. I thinck that candy shoul;d of shot his dog. I thinck they should because it is there dog and not let any one that they dont now put them down.
George and Lennie's relationship is weird because people in this time period never see two guys walking together. George is with lennie to protect him from all the people in the world that might mistreat him because he is just a little bit different (he is just a little slow). Lennie went with george because his aunt had just died and he had nothing else in that town and that is how they started traveling together.

I personally think that candy should shoot his dog himself and not have someone else do it for him. Candy's dog was very old. Candy's dog did not have a single tooth inside his mouth, the dog smells like rotting flesh and can hardly even move. The only way people could put there animals down in the 1930's was to shoot it in the back of the head so that if the animal was in pain it would be put out of it's misery.
Lennie an george have a very rare relationship. They are almost compleatly different but they are always sided by side. They watch eachothers backs but in different ways.they need eachother an both have the same dream. withought eachother they wouldnt be the same.

He should put the dog down. Back than it was different an why let the animal suffer.Put the dog down an do what u gota do. Depending on how sick tthe animal is makes it right or wrong

Yea I so belive what your right! I felt the same way. I couldnt agree more! Its like someone shooting you when you are down and sick, just because they don't want to take care of you.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on this one. If you do care about your pet, and if you've had a dog as long as Candy has, you wouldn't want your dog to suffer. If the dog has been a good and wonderful dog its whole life, it doesn't deserve to live as a crippled and suffering dog. If you do care about it you would want your dog to end quickly and painlessly as opposed to having it die slowly and painfully.
