Frequently Asked Questions!

What are the goals of the instrumental music program?  - It is my goal to encourage and promote music literacy and appreciation  within young people so that they will be musically enhanced throughout their lives.

When does the band perform?  - The fourth grade band performs at the spring concert.  The fifth and sixth grade band performs at both the holiday and spring concerts.

Can I be in sports and band?  - YES!!!  A majority of band members also participate in athletics.  They are also involved in clubs, student council and other activities.  Students are encouraged to participate in their own education.

What instruments can I play? - Students can start on the flute, clarinet, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, oboe, bass clarinet and percussion.  Each student will be tested on these instruments to see which ones they have a natural ability to play.  A note or phone call home will be made to inform parents of what instrument is best suited for their child.

How do I get an instrument? - Attend the beginning band parent night.  Music companies will be here to inform you about their rent-to-own programs.  It is strongly recommended that you rent a good quality instrument through one of these companies.  They offer the brands and models that are preferred.  Please DO NOT purchase an instrument off the internet or from a wholesale club.  These instruments are inexpensive, but are cheaply made and break easily.  Because of their poor quality, instrument companies do not carry the parts to fix them.  Please discuss any instrument purchase with your music teacher before buying one.
