The music department at the high school has been very busy this semster. Both choir and band students particpated at Little Falls high school as student musicians rehearsed and presented a great concert. Four students also spent a weekend preparing and performing in the area All-State music festival. These students, Emily Champagne, Sean Maphia, Phil O'Donnell, and Leta Williams, represented HHS choir department, and Matt Migliore and Jaron Case were part of the Area All-State band. Students from the band and chorus also performed at the Christmas Lights celebration at the mini-park. The chorus brought some Holiday cheer t the residents of Folts Home with a concert/sing along. The culimnation the year was a terrific concert of students in grades 7-12, featuring choruses and bands, on Dec. 9th in our beautiful, new auditorium.
We also extended a warm welcome to the Ilion High School when they performed in our auditorium in October. Ilion's auditorium is currently unavailable because it is undergoing renovations. On December 6, the Syracuse Symphony performed holiday favorites at HHS.
Just when you might think things are gearing down, we return in Januart to begin auditions and rehearsals for the spring musical on March 24-26. In addition to the winter All-County weekend, students will begin to practice for NYSMAA adjudications in the spring. This is a tour year for the chorus and band, so we are doing fundraising, and of course, the spring concert and pops concerts are closer than they seem!
Parents of music students 7-12 are encouraged to get involved with the programs FAME (Families Assisting Music Education) meets on the first Monday of every month in room , and the Footlighter's Booster Club (theatre) meets on Tuesday nights from mid-January till the end of March. Please join us - many hands make light work.
