Music groups excel at WorldStrides festival

Student musicians perform on stage

Herkimer High School performing arts groups took top honors at the WorldStrides On-Stage Toronto Music Festival, held April 28-29.

The WorldStrides mission is to ignite personal growth for students, through travel and study abroad at every stage of development.

Vocal and music groups from Herkimer performed three selections and were graded on tone, intonation, balance, blend, diction and articulation, rhythm, choice of repertoire and general effect of the performance.

The Herkimer High School band achieved a Bronze rating for its performance. The Herkimer High School Chamber Choir achieved a silver rating, and came in second overall for choirs of its size in that category. Percussionist Ronnie Gage III was recognized as an outstanding soloist. The Herkimer High School Jazz Band was awarded a Silver rating.

While in Toronto, students had a guided tour of the Rogers Center, home of the Toronto Blue Jays, and saw a professional baseball game between the Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays. Students also went up in the C.N. Tower, visited the Ripleys Aquarium, and toured the Royal Ontario Museum. They also shopped at the Eaton Center, and topped off their tour visiting the Horseshoe Falls and American Falls in Niagara Falls.
