Sculpture students create public art project

3-D printed model of the Eiffel Tower on a puzzle piece shaped base

Visitors to Herkimer Jr./Sr. High School this fall may see some “puzzling” works of art.

Students in Mrs. McCutcheon’s sculpture class have created 3-D printed puzzle pieces that have been put on display around the school building. Each puzzle piece is accompanied by a QR code that, when scanned, provides some additional information about each piece.

The puzzle pieces were created collaboratively and, when put together, create a large HHS community image.

“These pieces are meant to invoke communication, a response and discussions among students and staff,” McCutcheon explained. “Public art is a reflection of how we see the world – the artist’s response to our time and place combined with our own sense of who we are.”

Look for this student artwork the next time you are at the high school!
