About 300 third- through sixth-grade students from Herkimer Elementary School and St. Francis de Sales Regional Catholic School enjoyed a sneak preview of the spring musical, “Nice Work If You Can Get It” on March 8.

“Sit back, enjoy, and have a great time!” was the invitation given at the start of the performance, which opened with a musical number set to George Gershwin’s “Sweet and Lowdown.”

The show features more well-known songs by George and Ira Gershwin, such as “Someone To Watch Over Me,” “Fascinating Rhythm” and the title tune, “Nice Work If You Can Get It.”

“You’ll be swept back to the days of the Roaring 20’s, Prohibition, and hot jazz,” said John Krause, who directs the show. Choreography is by Dale Cruskie.

The show features Brandan Parks, Jenna Vincent, James Petucci, Rebecca Eastwood, Kyler Ford, Morgan Nichols, John Chimento, Brooke Edstrom, Devon Everson and Shayna Crandall in the lead roles.

The ensemble of showgirls and the vice squad is made up of Kara Boehm, Nicole Gallagher, Rebekah Groom, Ariana Janes, Amanda Johnson, Destiney McDavid, Keeleigh Nutt, Morgan Rivers, Dani Lee Rivett, Kim Wood, Andrew Boyles, Joseph Carney, Connor Dykeman, Nate Polus, Zachary Polus and Zach Williams.

The musical will be performed at 7:30 p.m. March 9, 10, and 11 in the Herkimer High School Auditorium. Tickets are $8 and are available at the Herkimer Town Office at 114 North Prospect St. in Herkimer, or at the door. Senior citizens are invited to attend Thursday’s performance free of charge.
