Finding a friend to play with at Herkimer Elementary just got a little bit easier.
A “buddy bench” donated by the Herkimer High School Class of 1978 and the Lions Club has been installed at the elementary school playground.
Principal Renee Vogt said she worked with Rudy Scialdo to get the bench installed for students as well as for those in the community that use the playground after hours.
“The idea behind the bench is that if a student is ever feeling lonely or left out, he or she should sit down and that will let other children know they should go over and begin to chat with them,” Mrs. Vogt explained.
According to Mrs. Vogt, the students at HES are enjoying the latest addition to their playground, and have embraced the idea behind it.
“The kids absolutely love it,” Mrs. Vogt said, adding, “Everyone should have a right to have a friend.”
