Girls soccer team goes pink for breast cancer

Girls soccer team wearing pink and black shirts for breast cancer awareness

Oct. 1 was Pink Night on the Herkimer soccer fields, with the girls varsity team members turning out in black and pink shirts, pink socks and pink ribbons braided in their hair.

The players chose to host this event in honor of anyone who has fought breast cancer, in recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

During the game, proceeds from the concession stand and a 50/50 raffle were collected to benefit breast cancer research. The winner of the raffle donated the proceeds back to the cause, with the team raising a total of $186 to donate toward breast cancer research.

Team members were interviewed after the game by WKTV Sports to talk about their fundraising efforts.
