Students at Herkimer Elementary School are supported with social and emotional learning strategies that aim to help all students be successful. Students are supported in understanding and acknowledging their emotions and reactions so that they can respond appropriately and seek help when needed. This approach helps our students succeed in and out of the classroom.
Each month, Herkimer Elementary focuses on a different positive character trait (such as fair, responsible or motivated) through its “Be.” character education program. Students hear positive messages about the character trait and are recognized for demonstrating that trait.
Social and Emotional Learning
Students in kindergarten through third grade receive instruction in social and emotional learning from the school counselor.
Career Counseling and Goal Setting
Students in grades 4 and 5 participate in goal-setting and career counseling activities.
