For the sixth consecutive year, the Mohawk Valley Choral Society has granted Student Enrichment in Vocal Music awards to several senior high school students from Herkimer County.
These scholarships allow the students to join the choral society at no cost and to receive weekly vocal lessons from a professional vocal teacher.
This year’s scholarship winners are Aaron Barnett from Central Valley Academy; Christina Deschene from Little Falls High School; Anna Engel from Central Valley Academy; Rachel Nunneker from Central Valley Academy; Will Paddock from Central Valley Academy; Brandan Parks from Herkimer High School; Carol Price from Herkimer High School; Eddie Rose from Little Falls High School and Cody Turk from Central Valley Academy.
These students were winners in this year’s student competition, at which they performed before a panel of judges from the Mohawk Valley Choral Society.
In their high schools, they are active in extracurricular activities as varied as Ecology Club, Big Brother Big Sister, National Honor Society, football, cross country and field hockey.
These are students who are involved in their school’s music programs and have sung in their high schools musicals and choruses.
Their varied college plans include studying music education, communications, pre-law, sports marketing or medicine.
Any high school student in Herkimer or Oneida counties who will be a junior or senior in the 2016-17 school year and who is interested in competing for these awards should consult with their school’s vocal teacher or contact the Mohawk Valley Choral Society directly from the website at www.mvchoral.org.
