Herkimer High School junior Joseph Carney once again served as student master facilitator for this year’s 2018 Herkimer County Youth Summit at Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES.
Also participating from Herkimer High School were Kurstin Gay, Abby Stapf, Nathaniel Stapf, Aaron Baldwin, Marion Leskovar, Kristine Nietes and Bailey Harrer.
The event brought together students from area schools to discuss issues of school safety, including law enforcement, substance abuse, unhealthy relationships and suicide prevention.
Carney told Herkimer BOCES that the Youth Summit planning committee chose the topics for the day’s discussion, and that he became the student master facilitator for his sophomore and junior years because of the difference he found out students could make.
“I loved creating change in my school,” he said. “I’m glad to have the opportunity to do this. I think it’s a great event.”
