District residents can register children for Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) and kindergarten in March. Get started today to get ready for upcoming registration deadlines:
Kindergarten Registration: March 19
District residents whose children who will be 5 years old on or before Dec. 1, and who will be attending the Herkimer Elementary School as a kindergarten student, are asked to complete the Kindergarten Registration Form and return it to the main office at their earliest convenience.
Parents who complete the form will receive a registration packet by mail. This packet should be completed and brought to kindergarten registration on Tuesday, March 19.
If your child attends the Herkimer Universal Pre-K or BOCES Pre-K programs, please return paperwork to your child’s teacher.
UPK Registration: March 26
District residents whose children will be 4 years old on or before Dec. 1 can register for the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program. Parents who wish to begin the application process should call the school at (315) 866-8562 to have their name added to the preliminary list. Registration will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Herkimer Elementary School.
UPK at HES is a free, full-day program that includes one-way transportation (to home from school, after dismissal). Lunch is served during the school day.
The program is led by certified teachers using a curriculum aligned with the K-5 program.
Students are selected for the UPK program based on a random selection process. There are no income requirements for participation.
Parent(s)/Guardian(s) must bring the following documents to registration complete the application process:
- Child’s birth certificate
- Proof of residency in Herkimer (i.e. utility bill, lease, bank statement)
- Custody papers (if applicable)
