Mask and social distancing guidelines remain in place in schools and on school grounds through end of school year

The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) requires that students in kindergarten through grade 12 should continue to follow masking and social distancing protocols for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. While new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says those who are vaccinated can avoid wearing a mask in most situations, it says masks should be worn at all times by all people in school facilities.

Visitors to Herkimer CSD, including those attending school events, must also continue to wear face masks and practice social distancing regardless of their vaccination status.

A statement released by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) on May 18 said that guidance from the NYSDOH from March still applies. It stated that those attending and participating at high school sporting events in New York State must still wear masks or face coverings while on the premises of the event. The CDC and NYSDOH have indicated it would work over the summer to update guidance for schools for next fall.
