Students at Herkimer Jr./Sr. High School are collecting “Pennies for Patients” during April to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
According to its website, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s largest nonprofit health organization dedicated to finding cures for blood cancers.
“Our Pennies for Patients program helps raise money to fund research for therapies that save the lives of blood cancer patients,” the website said.
Students and staff are encouraged to support the effort by placing change in the buckets marked for the Pennies for Patients drive. According to teacher and Student Council adviser Laura Scalise, the Student Council has set a goal of collecting $200 to donate to LLS.
Donations to the Pennies for Patients drive can be made out to the Herkimer Student Council, with “Pennies for Patients” in the memo line.
