Families can still register students for Herkimer Central School District’s Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) program.

Children who live within the district who will be age 4 or older by Dec. 1 may be eligible to enroll in the program, which is hosted at Herkimer Elementary.

UPK at HES is a free, full-day program that includes one-way transportation (to home from school, after dismissal). Lunch is served during the school day.

The program is led by certified teachers using a curriculum aligned with the K-5 program.

Students are selected for the UPK program based on a random selection process. There are no income requirements for participation.

A meeting for UPK parents will be held Aug. 7, with school visits scheduled for Aug. 26 and 27.

To apply for UPK or for more information, call  (315) 866-8562 or visit the elementary school office at 255 Gros Boulevard between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays.
