To mark secretary Franca Wandell’s 43-year career at Herkimer High School, High School Principal Mary Tomaso named her an “honorary member of the Class of 2017” and awarded her a symbolic diploma.
Mrs. Wandell arrived in the United States at the age of 8, moving to the Mohawk Valley where she later became a member of Herkimer’s Class of 1976. She devoted her working years to the district’s students, never seeking recognition for her efforts that benefitted so many and that included extensive planning and organizing for each year’s graduation ceremonies, including this year’s.
“Mrs. Wandell wants no recognition or accolades,” Principal Tomaso said. “She just wants everything to go right.”
