Seventh-grader’s spooky story wins Halloween contest

Herkimer seventh-grader Rhiannon Renodin’s Halloween story was among those chosen as a winner of the Utica Observer-Dispatch’s Halloween Story Contest.

According to teacher Mrs. Bailey, about 25 Herkimer seventh-graders entered stories in the contest. More than 750 entries were submitted throughout the region, and Rhiannon’s was one of only 10 chosen as a winner.

Mrs. Bailey said she encouraged students to enter the contest to give some purpose to their writing. Rhiannon received a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card for her winning entry.
