Staff prepare for start of school

As families are enjoying Labor Day weekend, Herkimer Central School District faculty and staff are getting ready for the start of another school year.

New Staff

Both Herkimer Elementary School and Herkimer Jr./Sr. High School will welcome new staff members this fall. Please join us in welcoming these new faces to the district:

Herkimer Elementary

  • Mrs. Bagnall – Music Teacher

As the new school year begins, parents and students are reminded of some of the procedures they will be expected to follow. All Herkimer families are reminded that breakfast is free to all students throughout the month of September. No sign-up or registration is required. More information is on the Food Menus page.

Herkimer Elementary

  • Parents are asked to use the Gros Boulevard entrance to drop students off at school
  • Students should be dropped off by 8:10 a.m.
  • Bus changes must be called in by 12 p.m.
  • Kindergarten students must have a parent or guardian waiting at the bus stop to be dropped off
  • Parents may wait in the main entrance / vestibule area to pick students up after school.

Herkimer Jr./Sr. High School

  • Students in grades 7-12 will all have a 9-period day each day, with 44-minute classes and a 30-minute lunch
  • Classes such as physical education, science labs, and academic support services will meet every other day, instead of once every four days
  • Students must be in class by 7:55 a.m. at the start of Period 1. Front doors and hallways open at 7:40 a.m.
  • A late bus is available (at 3:45 p.m.) for students participating in after-school activities

The start of school is a busy time for everyone. Mark down the following dates, and follow the district’s Google calendar, to keep up with important school and district events:

  • Sept. 13: Elementary PTA Ice Cream Social and Open House, 6 p.m.
  • Sept. 16: High School Open House, 6-8 p.m.
  • Sept. 18: Elementary PTA meeting, 7 p.m.
  • Sept. 20-21: Elementary school pictures
  • Sept. 22: Early dismissal (12:30 p.m.)
