Students paint mural at VFW

Michael S. Pliseck Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4915 will soon have a new look thanks to the help of some Herkimer High School art students.

Students in Heather McCutcheon’s Advanced Placement art class gathered at the VFW, at 129 Mohawk St. in Herkimer, on Tuesday to start work on a mural that will feature the American flag and the U.S. Constitution.

“We mostly needed something to upgrade the VFW,” said Post Commander Mike Wainwright.

Wainwright said they decided to have a mural painted on the outside wall of the building, facing Dewey Avenue, and asked Herkimer High School art students for some assistance.

McCutcheon said several students submitted designs last April on what should go on the mural. The design by Victoria Rodriguez, a studio art student in McCutcheon’s class last school year, was the one selected by the VFW to be the building’s mural. Read more at Times Telegram website.
