2 Herkimer students’ artwork selected for Fenimore Art Museum exhibit

Two Herkimer Central School District students had their artwork selected by a panel of judges as winners for the Fenimore Art Museum’s 2023 Young at Art! Regional Youth Art Contest.

The Herkimer students who were selected and will have their art on display in an exhibit at the museum were 12th grader Lyla Williams and sixth grader Gwendalyn McCutcheon.

More than 300 submissions were received for the contest from 21 schools plus homeschooled students, and about 30 of the submissions were from Herkimer Central School District. Herkimer art teacher Heather McCutcheon said she encouraged all of her students and Art Club members to submit works to the contest, which had a theme of “identity” this year.

“This is a huge honor for our students,” Heather McCutcheon said.

The exhibition, titled Young at Art! Visions of Identity, will be on view at the Fenimore Art Museum from May 27 to July 23. The Young at Art! Regional Youth Art Contest Reception and Awards Ceremony will take place on June 10 with announcements of winners of cash prizes, special prizes and the grand prize.
