Aug. 3, 2021, minutes (special meeting)

The Special Board of Education Meeting was called to order at 5:31 p.m. at the Herkimer Jr/Sr High School Media Center and the Pledge of Allegiance was said.

President Crandall explained the Board of Education welcomes public comment and community input at meetings.  However, we caution that we are not authorized to engage in conversations pertaining to individual students, faculty, staff or administrators.  Topics of this nature may only be discussed during executive session and must be coordinated with the Superintendent of Schools prior to a BOE meeting.

Public Comment:

The Board of Education heard no comments from the public.

Approval of the Agenda:

Ms. Gilbert moved, and Mr. Carney seconded a motion to formally approve the consent agenda.  All voted in favor; motion carried 6:0.

Approval of the Minutes:

Ms. Fischer moved, and Mr. Carney seconded a motion to formally approve the Board of Education Annual Reorganization/Regular Meeting minutes from Wednesday, July 7,  2021.   All voted in favor; motion carried 6:0.

Business Reports:

Donation to School Resolution-Walmart Community Grant:

Ms. Fischer moved, and Mr. Lewis seconded to accept/approve the following Board resolution: “RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Herkimer Central School District, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, does hereby accept receipt of the Walmart Community Grant, to increase Revenue A2705 and to increase the Appropriation Code A2110 450H by $500.00 to benefit the Herkimer Central School District Community Closet, which will offer clothing, toiletries, food and school supplies for students in need.” All voted in favor; motion carried 6:0.  (Material filed in the supplemental file dated 08/03/2021)

2021-2022 BOCES Contract (AS-7):

Ms. Fischer moved and Mr. Petucci seconded to approve the following Board resolution: “BE IT RESOLVED, that the BOE does hereby authorize an Agreement between the Herkimer-Fulton- Hamilton-Otsego BOCES and the Herkimer Central School District; and WHEREAS, it is the Districts desire to enter into this Agreement and to authorize President Crandall to sign the agreement on behalf of the district. Fitness Center Equipment Lease Resolution:

Ms. Gilbert moved and Mr. Petucci seconded the following Board resolution: “BE IT RESOLVED, the Board of Education of the Herkimer Central School District desires to enter into a 5-year contract with MACROLEASE Corporation for the purpose of leasing equipment for the districts fitness center. The Herkimer Board of Education hereby acknowledges receipt of a quotation from Advantage Sports & Fitness Inc.; and, THEREFORE, the Board of Education authorizes the Superintendent of Schools to sign on behalf of the Board to enter into the agreement.”

Future Meeting Dates/Agenda Items:

The next scheduled regular BOE meeting will be on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. in the Jr./Sr. High School Library Media Center.  There will be Board of Education Workshop prior to that meeting, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

There was a brief discussion about the construction project and what the state of the school will look like for the re-opening of school in September.  There was also some concern in regards to notifying parents in a timely matter of our re-opening plan and procedures.

Meeting Evaluation:

Mr. Lewis, this evening’s meeting evaluator, presented his review of the August 3, 2021 Board of Education meeting.

Ms. Gilbert moved, and Mr. Petucci seconded a motion to move into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing particular personnel and negotiations. The Board may take action in public session after the Executive Session ends and the Board returns to public session.  All voted in favor; motion carried 7:0.

The Board moved into Executive Session at 6:20 p.m.

The Board exited Executive Session at 7:43 p.m.
