Herkimer Central School District fourth graders recently participated in former New England Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell’s Global READBowl competition.
Herkimer fourth graders combined to read more than 20,000 minutes as part of the competition. On Friday, Feb. 6, they celebrated their participation and accomplishments by having a day dedicated to football. They practiced identifying text structure and main idea by using passages related to the football game. They were even able to make a prediction as to who the NFL champion would be.
“Great job fourth graders,” Herkimer fourth grade teacher Amberlyn Gosier said. “Keep reading!”
Mitchell won a Super Bowl championship and now dedicates his time as a youth literacy advocate, author and motivational speaker.
