Herkimer CSD update on School Resource/Patrol Officers for 2025-2026

The Herkimer Central School District would like to update the school community on the SRO (School Resource Officer) and SPO (School Patrol Officer) for the 2025-26 school year.

The district would like to thank the Herkimer Village Trustees, Trustee Ainsworth, Trustee Dhanriham, Trustee Scalise and Trustee Quick for approving the School Resource Contract for the 2025-2026 school year. We are extremely proud of the long-standing relationship with the Village of Herkimer Police Department and look forward to continuing this relationship.

Officer Jessica Alberts will continue to serve as the School Resource Officer (SRO) and remain at the Middle-High School building.

We are also pleased to announce a partnership with the Herkimer County Sheriff’s Department to provide a School Patrol Officer (SPO) at Herkimer Elementary School. Over the last few months, the district has been working closely with Sheriff Scott Scherer on the agreement for continued school safety at the Elementary School Campus in East Herkimer. This agreement was approved by the Board of Education at the July 30 meeting.

Officer Ken Lawrence was assigned to the elementary school and had a chance to meet with administration and tour the campus this week. Officer Lawrence is a retired NYS Trooper and has worked the past year as a SPO in the Poland Central School District.

The district remains committed to the safety of our students, staff and school community and we deeply value the partnerships we have developed with not only the Herkimer Village Police Department and the Herkimer County Sheriff’s Office but also the numerous other public safety agencies that serve our district including the Herkimer Village Fire Department, the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department, The New York State Troopers, and the Herkimer County Emergency Services 911 Department.

Please join me in welcoming Officer Alberts back and Officer Lawrence to our school community!

Respectfully,
Mrs. Kathleen Carney
Superintendent of Schools
