Herkimer Elementary School music students have packed a lot into December – including taking a field trip, performing for Foltsbrook residents and preparing for their school concert.
On Monday, Dec. 8, the Herkimer Elementary Fourth Grade Chorus (and select Elementary Intermediate Band students) performed for residents of the Foltsbrook Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. Band students performed a variety of Christmas songs in small instrumental ensembles, and chorus students sang Christmas carols and other traditional holiday songs.
Then, on Saturday, Dec. 13, Herkimer Elementary School band and chorus students went on a field trip to see the Syracuse Orchestra perform a live score of the 1982 animated film “The Snowman” at Inspiration Hall in Syracuse.
Students participated in these events with Herkimer elementary vocal music teacher William Pegg and instrumental music teacher Aaron Baldwin.
“It’s the perfect time of year for students to get the opportunity to give back to the community by performing for Foltsbrook residents and get a reward for their hard work by visiting the Syracuse Orchestra for a fun, holiday show,” Pegg said.
Herkimer Elementary School students will also perform at their Winter Concert at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, at the Herkimer Middle-High School.
