Herkimer National Honor Society hosting Red Cross blood drive Sept. 24 in honor of Herkimer alumnus

The Herkimer National Honor Society is hosting a Red Cross blood drive on Wednesday, Sept. 24, in honor of Herkimer alumnus Cody Jones, who is undergoing treatment for acute myeloid leukemia.

Community members are encouraged to join us to donate and can sign up for the blood drive here: https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=HerkimerHS

The blood drive takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the Aux Gym at the Herkimer Middle-High School at 801 W. German St. in Herkimer.

Cody Jones is also the husband of Brooke Jones, who is a 12th grade English and special education teacher at Herkimer CSD.

Brooke Jones provided the following update about her husband:

“Cody has completed the initial two phases of his AML treatment which are the most grueling (induction and consolidation). He went through four different rounds of chemo and roughly five to six full blood transfusions and over a dozen platelet donations. Watching him receive the blood donations was a sign that he was almost through the toughest part of a particular round of chemo. Watching how vital blood donations are was truly eye opening.

“He is now considered in remission and is in the final stage of AML treatment (with, hopefully, the final outcome as a cure).”

All presenting donors will receive a t-shirt, Amazon gift card and be in the running for the chance to win a pair of Beats Solo3 headphones.
