Herkimer student Madison Marusic has officially committed to continue her academic and athletic career at Utica University, where she will compete in both women’s basketball and track and field.
The commitment ceremony took place on Friday, May 2.
A standout athlete, Marusic played five seasons of varsity basketball for the Magicians, finishing her high school career with an impressive 1,313 points. In addition to her basketball success, she has been a dedicated member of Herkimer’s varsity track and field program for the past four years and will continue competing in the sport at the collegiate level.
Head Coach Kelli Cooper spoke with emotion about Marusic’s lasting impact on the program and school community.
“Well, I’m going to try to not get choked up, because I mean I’ve been coaching for seven years, and five out of those seven Madison has been on my team,” Cooper said. “It’s been amazing to see her progress throughout from her eighth grade year all the way to this year. She has grown every single year, not only as a basketball player, but as a person.”
Beyond athletics, Marusic plans to study physical therapy at Utica University. Herkimer Central School District congratulates Madison on this exciting next chapter and wishes her continued success on and off the field!
