The Art Student of the Month for May is Lilia McLean. Lilia is in 12 grade, and she was chosen as Student of the Month by Mrs. Zorn because of her diligence and determination in the classroom. Lilia consistently uses her class time well, and her creativeness and art-making skills have improved tremendously. Below is an interview with Lilia.
Q. How does it feel to be Art Student of the Month?
A. I feel honored, especially considering that it is in the same month that I’ve been selected by Student Council as Student of the Month for creativity.
Q. What are your favorite art-making materials to work with, or subjects you like to portray?
A. I enjoy working in digital art. I mainly work on my iPad with an Apple Pencil. As for subjects, I prefer drawing characters from the media I like, such as shows and video games.
Q. Do you have any artworks that you are particularly proud of, and if so, why?
A. I recently made artwork over spring break featuring the protagonist of my favorite show/anime. It became my favorite artwork because the character is my favorite, in general. I do like most of the art I make, that focuses on highly detailed characters. I’ve been told that I’m skilled, when it comes to details.
Q. Where do you find inspiration from when you are creating your own artwork?
A. I mostly get inspiration from the media I like. If I like a character, or their design, I want to draw them.
Q. What are your plans after high school?
A. I’ve been accepted to Buffalo State University, so I’m going there to study something in the graphic arts field.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers about the art-making process?
A. There are many different mediums of art. Experiment! Perhaps, you will find something you like.
