Message from the Superintendent: the process on closing school during inclement weather explained

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As the inclement weather approaches, the process to make a decision on closing school begins at 4:30 in the morning. School officials watch the weather reports, check the radar and make contacts with Town and Village officials in regard to road and sidewalk conditions. The primary reason for canceling school will be the safety of students in getting to school either by bus transportation or by walking.

We will do our very best to make a decisions to close (or not) by 6 a.m. If we think the weather will improve in the morning, we will have a delay. The Parent Square emergency phone system will programmed to start calling as close to 6 a.m. as possible. (If you have any changes to your be telephone numbers, please contact your child’s school office.) Information will still be shared on television and radio. A list of radio and TV stations that carry our school closing announcement is listed below.

While we try to avoid dismissing students early, there might be times when we have no choice. Please have an emergency plan in place for an early dismissal.

Thank you for your support and understanding. Closing school is never an easy decision, however, your child’s safety will always be utmost on our mind.

Sincerely,
Robert J. Miller
Superintendent of Schools
