Enter the Red Ribbon Week hashtag giveaway

Students at Herkimer Jr./Sr. High School have been sporting red ribbons this week to show that they have pledged to stay drug-free.

Each student in Grades 6-12 has the opportunity to take the Red Ribbon Week pledge, which reads, “I pledge to grow up safe, healthy and drug free by: Understanding the dangers of drug use and abuse; respecting myself and being drug free; and spreading the word to family and friends about the importance of being healthy and drug free.”

Students (with parents’ permission, where applicable) can use the hashtag #BeSafeHHS on social media to show their support for Red Ribbon Week and the chance to win a $25 Applebee’s gift card.

Red Ribbon Week is a nationwide alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually from Oct. 23-31 across the United States. The theme for Red Ribbon Week 2020 is “Be Happy. Be Brave. Be Drug Free.”

In addition, middle school students have decorated ribbons that will be displayed in the upstairs window of the school. Ribbons will be awarded “Teachers Choice” by several HMS/HHS staff and prizes are available to students who participate. Sixth-grade students are also meeting with Prevention Service Coordinator Crystal Gerhardt to learn more about how to stay drug-free.
