Elementary dismissal changes to take effect Monday, Nov. 7

The Herkimer Elementary School has announced dismissal changes that will take effect Monday, Nov. 7.

The winter weather will be here soon, and after assessing our parent pick-up dismissal procedure, we feel that some changes will help increase efficiency as well as safety for our students, staff and parents/caregivers and those who will be plowing the roads.

K-2 parent pick-ups: Any parent/caregiver picking up a student in grades K-2 will pick up, as normal, in the loop in  front of the building (off of Gros Boulevard). You will continue to pull all the way up to the cone, have your student sign in your window and wait for your child to safely be released to your vehicle.

Double cohorts: If you have children that are in both cohorts – for example, a child in grade 2 and a child in grade 5 – you would use the K-2 front of the building loop and follow the same procedures.

3-5 parent pick-ups: If you are picking up a student in grades 3-5, you will need to pull into the athletic field lot (off from Gros Boulevard), pull all the way up to the cone, have the student sign in your window and wait for your child to safely be released to your vehicle.

We believe these changes will help with the backed up traffic on Gros Boulevard and Pine Grove Road, in addition to ensuring the safety of all students, staff and those picking students up.

These new procedures will go into effect, Monday, Nov. 7.

With any new procedure, it will take a few days to establish the new routine. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation, patience and understanding as we work together to keep everyone safe.

If you are having someone other than the normal person pick up, you MUST provide the office with a note including the name and relationship of that person. For example, “My child is getting picked up by her Aunt Louise today.” This IS pertinent in order to ensure the safety of your child.
