Herkimer raises nearly $3,000 in donations for Ukraine

High school civics students created and sold bracelets, and students and staff at the elementary participated in the “Pennies for Peace” drive.  All together, the bracelets netted about $2,100 and the coin drive totaled around $600.

The students worked with the Herkimer Hunger Coalition, who plans to donate all of the money earned WCK. The WCK continues to serve millions of fresh meals to Ukrainian families fleeing home as well as those remaining in the country.

On April 27, Ray Lenarcic, Kay Lenarcic, and Roy Henry presented awards from the Hunger Coalition.

“All students learned a valuable lesson to help those in need,” said high school civics teacher, Laura Scalise.

Students plan on selling more bracelets at the Herkimer Community Market on Main  Street.
