Herkimer Central School District senior Melia Couchman has now added winning the 2023 Nike Outdoor Nationals Girls Pole Vault Emerging Elite Championship to her list of accolades this school year.
The Nike Outdoor Nationals took place from June 15-18 at the University of Oregon.
Couchman cleared 12 feet, 2.5 inches to win her pole vault competition. The mark was her personal outdoor best and the second best mark of her career – behind only her 12 feet, 4.5 inches from when she won the Nike Indoor Nationals Girls Pole Vault Emerging Elite Championship in March.
In addition to the two Nike national championships and various sectional championships, Couchman also won the 2023 state championship in girls pole vault on Friday, June 9, during the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Middletown High School.
