HES to welcome back Grades 3-5 on Sept. 3

As the Herkimer Central School District prepares to reopen school under new guidelines and procedures, the district will use a “phased-in” approach to bringing students back into the building.

Herkimer Elementary

Grades 3-5 will come to school on Thursday, Sept. 3. For these grades, the school day will start at approximately 8:05 a.m. and dismiss at approximately 1:05 p.m. This will allow students and staff to acclimate to the new systems with a smaller number of students in the building initially.

There will be no school on Friday, Sept. 4.

Back-to-school for Grades K-2 will begin Tuesday, Sept. 8. On that day, Grades 3-5 will NOT report to school. The school day for  Grades K-2 will start at approximately 7:45 a.m. and dismiss at approximately 12:45 p.m.

All students will begin coming to school together on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Herkimer Jr./Sr. High School

Students in grades 6-12 will begin school on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Their day will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m. with dismissal at approximately 1:30 p.m. A sixth-grade orientation will take place prior to the start of school; more information on that event will be forthcoming.

Approximately half of the Grades 7-12 students will start live instruction on Sept. 8 with the other half starting remote instruction. The other group of Grades 7-12 students will begin in-person instruction on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

BOCES CTE programs will begin Sept. 8 with juniors attending. Seniors will begin in-person CTE instruction on Sept. 10. These students will be bused directly from home to BOCES.

Parents at all grade levels can expect to receive more information in the mail about the return to school.
