HHS student athletes honored

Herkimer senior Jordan Lanaux was named to the all-state first team for boys basketball in April by the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Jordan was the only player in the region selected for the Class C all-state first team, putting up what the Utica Observer-Dispatch called “astounding scoring numbers” for the season.

“Lanaux eclipsed 30 points 10 times, 40 points five times, and scored a career-high and school record 55 points — in just three quarters — Feb. 13 at Dolgeville,” the newspaper wrote, making Lanaux the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,776 career points.

In addition, junior Taylor Smith was named as a first-team all-star for Division II of the Center State Conference.

Taylor broke two school records with 36 points and seven three-pointers in a February win over Frankfort-Schuyler and averaged 13.6 points with 37 threes and 42 steals. Junior Marion Leskovar averaged 7.5 points and received honorable mention.
