Leading into and through the start of the 2023-24 school year for students, we are featuring new teachers and staff at Herkimer Central School District in the “Spotlight.” Today, the Spotlight is on Amanda Cruikshank, who joins the district as a social worker.

Q. What date did you start in the new role?

A. Sept. 7, 2023.

 

Q. What is your background experience that led to this position?

A. I love working with people and the flexibility in jobs that social work provides. I have been working in the community with children and families for many years in similar roles.

 

Q. What makes you excited about working in your new role at Herkimer CSD?

A. The people! The community has been so welcoming and friendly. I cannot wait to meet the students and families. I am very excited for the start of the school year.

 

Q. When did you first know you wanted become a social worker and what made you feel that way?

A. I have always wanted to work with people. I went to college thinking that I would teach, but changed my professional track when I learned about social work. It’s more than a job; it’s who I am.

 

Q. What do you think makes Herkimer CSD special?

A. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. It is really nice to see everyone working together to make the school a better place. Everyone seems to really enjoy their work and is focused on making the whole environment better.
