The Student Council decides monthly student and teacher awards with a specific category each month. The category for December 2025 was “community engagement” for students and teachers.

The Senior Student of the Month awards go to two seniors per month who are nominated and voted on by Student Council members in grades 9-11.

The High School Teacher of the Month award goes to one teacher per month who is nominated and voted on by Student Council members in grades 9-12. All Teachers of the Month become eligible to become Teacher of the Year in June.

The December 2025 Senior Students of the Month are Anna Marquissee and Arthur Dadello, and the December 2025 High School Teacher of the Month is Ashley Sommer.

Below is a Q&A with Anna Marquissee:

Q. What first sparked your interest in helping your community?

A. I realized that not everyone has the same opportunities, and I wanted to help out as much as possible.

Q. What are one or two community efforts you’ve participated in that stand out to you?

A. I’ve participated in volunteering at the Herkimer elementary summer school program and HOBY NYE, which is a great program to get involved in. It promotes leaders and tells them that leaders can be different and don’t always have to be the first one to start the movement.

Q. What does being named Student of the Month represent to you personally?

A. It represents that what I am doing doesn’t go unnoticed.

Q. Which experience in your community work has meant the most to you, and why?

A. Definitely, when I worked at the elementary school because it showed me that I really can make a difference in kids’ lives.

Q. In what ways has giving back influenced your growth as a student or individual?

A. It has made me see that I really can help anyone and has made me even more motivated to help everyone I can.

Q. What would you say to students who want to get involved but aren’t sure where to start?

A. A perfect way to start getting involved is to go to the elementary or even the Humane Society. They are very welcoming and will appreciate all the help.

Q. Is there anyone you’d like to recognize for encouraging or supporting your involvement?

A. I would like to thank my parents for always supporting me in everything I do.
