June 2025 Senior Student of the Month
The Student Council decides monthly student and teacher awards with a specific category each month. The category for June 2025 was “academic role model” for both students and teachers.
The Senior Student of the Month awards go to two seniors per month who are nominated and voted on by Student Council members in grades 9-11.
The High School Teacher of the Month award goes to one teacher per month who is nominated and voted on by Student Council members in grades 9-12. All Teachers of the Month become eligible to become Teacher of the Year in June.
The June 2025 Senior Students of the Month are Sydney Bell and Brian Flint, and the June 2025 High School Teacher of the Month is Hollie Wolanski.
Below is a Q&A with Brian Flint:
Q. What does being named Senior of the Month mean to you?
A. Being named Senior of the Month is important to me because it gives meaning behind my accomplishments and is a great incentive for other students to achieve similar accomplishments
Q. Which academic subject do you enjoy the most, and why?
A. I enjoy math the most because it came to me the easiest. It was the subject which I’ve always excelled at, even in elementary school.
Q. What study habits or strategies have helped you succeed?
A. Just paying attention in class, using the resources that teachers give to you such as guided notes, pre-tests and study guides, and being present in class.
Q. Who or what has inspired you to stay committed to your academics?
A. My parents are the main people who have inspired me. Knowing that they work hard every day is what inspires me in my schoolwork and actual work.
Q. What advice would you give to younger students who want to excel academically?
A. Show up, be present, use your resources and have some passion. You can lead the horse to water, but you can’t force it to drink. It takes focus, confidence and willpower to excel or even succeed academically.
Q. How do you balance academics with other responsibilities or activities?
A. Pure will. Between school, sports, a social life and a job, it’s a lot, and it definitely gets hard at some points. The biggest thing that you have to be OK with when you do what I do is not having much alone time and not getting much sleep.
Q. What are your plans after graduation?
A. After graduation, I plan to spend the summer working on and off to make some extra money while spending my free time with friends and family. I will be attending SUNY Polytechnic Institute for the fall 2025 semester majoring in electrical engineering technology.
