CSE Chair Correne Holmes

Spotlight on: Correne Holmes
Committee on Special Education Chairperson (CSE Chair)

Q. When did you start in this position?

A. I joined the Herkimer team on July 1, 2023.

Q. What is your background experience that led to this position?

A. I have been in education for the last 28 years. Prior to coming to Herkimer, I was the elementary principal for West Canada Valley for eight years. I had many lead teacher roles in other districts before I decided to make the move to administration.

Q. What makes you excited about working in your role at Herkimer CSD? What makes Herkimer CSD special?

A. The people! So far, I have really enjoyed working with the staff in Herkimer. This is a very community-oriented school district, and I love how invested the teachers are in providing the best education possible for our students. We also have a fantastic team of administrators! I love working with the parents, administrators, teachers, therapists, guidance counselors, social workers and other staff members to develop the best plans possible to meet the needs of our students.

Q. When did you know you wanted to work in the education field and what made you feel that way?

A. I always knew I would work in the field of education. I can think back to when I was in elementary school and recall playing school with my friends. I was always the teacher! I didn’t make the decision to move into administration until about 10 years ago.
