October 2025 Senior Student of the Month

The Student Council decides monthly student and teacher awards with a specific category each month. The category for September 2025 was “fall athlete” for students and “encouraging to all students” for teachers.

The Senior Student of the Month awards go to two seniors per month who are nominated and voted on by Student Council members in grades 9-11.

The High School Teacher of the Month award goes to one teacher per month who is nominated and voted on by Student Council members in grades 9-12. All Teachers of the Month become eligible to become Teacher of the Year in June.

The October 2025 Senior Students of the Month are Ross Richard and Halonna White, and the October 2025 High School Teacher of the Month is Tekitha Posey.

Below is a Q&A with Halonna White:

Q. How does it feel to be honored as Student of the Month for your accomplishments as a fall athlete?

A. Being honored as Athlete of the Month feels amazing. It’s a proud moment that shows all the hard work and dedication I’ve put in is being recognized. It’s motivating to know that what I do on the field doesn’t go unnoticed and inspires me to keep pushing even harder.

Q. What drives you to perform your best both in athletics and in your schoolwork?

A. What drives me to perform my best in both athletics and my schoolwork is the fear of just being average. I want to push myself beyond limits and prove that I’m capable of more. It keeps me focused and driven to work hard every day, so I can achieve my goals and stand out.

Q. Can you describe a highlight from this season that stands out as a proud or meaningful moment?

A. A highlight from this season that stands out to me is being named captain. It was very rewarding because it showed that all the hard work I put in was acknowledged, and it impelled me to keep pushing myself and my teammates.

Q. How do you manage to juggle the responsibilities of your sport and your academic goals?

A. I manage to juggle the responsibilities of my sport and academic goals by staying organized and setting priorities. I always make sure to stay on top of my assignments and turn them in on time, so nothing gets left behind while I focus on training and games.

Q. Who has played a key role in motivating or supporting you throughout your athletic journey?

A. My older sister Shontashia has played a key role in motivating and supporting me throughout my athletic journey. She shows up to every game and cheers me on, which always gives me a boost of confidence.

Q. What advice would you share with younger athletes hoping to earn this type of recognition one day?

A. For younger athletes hoping to earn recognition, I’d say to always stay consistent and never give up, even when things get tough. Focus on balancing your schoolwork and also have fun in the sports you are playing. Always give your best effort; hard work really pays off in the end.

Q. What are your future goals in sports, and how do you think athletics will influence your path after high school?

A. My future goals in sports are to play volleyball at the collegiate level because I’ve spent my whole high school career dedicated to sports. Athletics have been a big part of my life, and I’m hoping to take that passion to a more competitive level after high school.
