Spotlight on: Sarah Huyck
November 2025 Senior Student of the Month
The Student Council decides monthly student and teacher awards with a specific category each month. The category for November 2025 was “most involved” for students and teachers.
The Senior Student of the Month awards go to two seniors per month who are nominated and voted on by Student Council members in grades 9-11.
The High School Teacher of the Month award goes to one teacher per month who is nominated and voted on by Student Council members in grades 9-12. All Teachers of the Month become eligible to become Teacher of the Year in June.
The November 2025 Senior Students of the Month are Amelia Brown and Sarah Huyck, and the November 2025 High School Teacher of the Month is Laura Scalise.
Below is a Q&A with Sarah Huyck:

Q. What school activities, clubs or events have you been most active in this month?
A. I have participated in field hockey and I have participated in a lot of activities for our senior class.

Q. What keeps you motivated to stay engaged and take part in so many school opportunities?
A. Being class president, it helps me stay engaged by knowing the possibilities we are capable of reaching by doing fundraisers, and it really helps me stay motivated.

Q. How do you organize your schedule to successfully balance academics and extracurricular commitments?
A. As I’m still working on that, I like to use Google calendars to keep on track with everything.

Q. What achievement or moment this month are you most proud of through your involvement?
A. I am very proud of raising over $900 from our senior bottle drive.

Q. In what ways has your involvement helped you develop personally or academically?
A. It has helped me develop the understanding of not allowing myself to be upset by things you can’t control.

Q. What advice would you give to classmates who want to become more involved in school life?
A. You only have four years of high school. Make it count and get yourself out there and prepared for the world outside of high school.

Q. Who or what has encouraged or supported you the most in staying active and committed to school activities?
A. Mrs Saugh has had a huge impact on my motivation through this whole year by helping me and my officers coordinate many fundraisers and other senior festivities!

Q. How do you hope to continue your involvement or grow as a leader in the future?
A. I plan on continuing my involvement in the community by studying at MVCC for nursing, while also working full-time as a hair stylist.
