October 2025 High School Teacher of the Month

The Student Council decides monthly student and teacher awards with a specific category each month. The category for September 2025 was “fall athlete” for students and “encouraging to all students” for teachers.

The Senior Student of the Month awards go to two seniors per month who are nominated and voted on by Student Council members in grades 9-11.

The High School Teacher of the Month award goes to one teacher per month who is nominated and voted on by Student Council members in grades 9-12. All Teachers of the Month become eligible to become Teacher of the Year in June.

The October 2025 Senior Students of the Month are Landon Ploss and Avery Allen, and the October 2025 High School Teacher of the Month is Tekitha Posey.

Below is a Q&A with Tekitha Posey:

Q. What does it mean to you to be recognized as Teacher of the Month for your encouragement and positivity toward students?

A. I am so happy to see that the work I am doing inside and outside of the classroom is noticed by my students. I am thankful to have them as my students!

Q. In your opinion, what’s the most essential part of creating a classroom that uplifts and supports every student?

A. The most essential part of having an open classroom is allowing all students to feel accepted and noticed. All students learn differently and need different forms of support from their teachers, so it’s important to provide that.

Q. Could you share a moment when your encouragement helped a student overcome a challenge or gain confidence?

A. There have been countless times when students have come to talk about an issue they are having outside of school such as relationship issues, family loss, etc. Having a person in the building that they are comfortable to talk with and explain their feelings before going to their next class was critical to their own emotional well-being and their ability to perform academically.

Q. What techniques or routines help you ensure that all students feel noticed, respected and supported in your classroom?

A. I try to give my students the opportunities to be themselves when they are in my room in simple ways. For instance, I provide students choice in the projects they want to work on (only provide a rubric with expectations), create a randomizer wheel for lab partners to switch up groups and give everyone the ability to demonstrate their knowledge.

Q. Who or what has most influenced your approach to creating a caring, inclusive, learning environment?

A. I am mostly influenced by my own experiences in school, and I always felt that I never had a teacher I could talk to. So I am trying to create an enjoyable environment where students can have fun while they are learning.

Q. What advice would you offer to other educators who want to build a stronger sense of encouragement among their students?

A. My advice would be to simply be a student again. Sometimes, putting yourself in your students’ shoes is the easiest way to understand what they may need and realize all kids are different, especially in terms of learning styles.

Q. What goals do you have moving forward to continue spreading positivity in your classroom and school community?

A. My goals are to simply keep the same healthy, fun, learning environment we have and to let the kids guide some of the discussions we have in class while simply keeping them on topic.
