Q. What date did you start in the new role?
A. Sept. 15, 2025.
Q. What is your background experience that led to this position?
A. I graduated from SUNY Potsdam and began my teaching career in North Carolina and Vermont. I then earned my master’s degree from the University of New England and began teaching at Poland Central School. Over the last 21 years, I taught multiple grade levels before serving as the Middle-High School principal [at Poland].
Q. What makes you excited about working in your new role at Herkimer CSD?
A. I am extremely excited to join the administrative team here in Herkimer, working alongside Mrs. Lindsay and Ms. Crandall. The first time I walked into the school, it just felt like home. Mrs. Carney has done a tremendous job of establishing a positive culture where students can excel and teachers feel supported.
Q. When did you first know you wanted become a teacher (and principal) and what made you feel that way?
A. I’ve always enjoyed working with kids, and I was fortunate enough to have some tremendous teachers growing up. They instilled a lifelong love of learning and supported me throughout any adversity I faced. I want to provide those same experiences for our next generation.
Q. What do you think makes Herkimer CSD special?
A. All the adults truly care about kids, and MAGIC happens here.
