Leading into and through the start of the 2023-24 school year for students, we are featuring new teachers and staff at Herkimer Central School District in the “Spotlight.” Today, the Spotlight is on Karlie Helmer, who joins the district as a licensed teaching assistant.

Q. What is your background experience that led to this position?

A. I recently graduated from Herkimer College with my associate degree in childhood education. Throughout my time at Herkimer College, I was a substitute teacher, and I was a teacher’s aide for summer school this year! I am continuing my education through an online program to get my bachelor’s degree in special education.

 

Q. What makes you excited about working in your new role at Herkimer CSD?

A. I’m excited to meet all the students and work with a great group of teachers and staff.

 

Q. How does it make you feel to now be working at Herkimer CSD after previously going to school here?

A. I am proud and very grateful to be given this opportunity to work at Herkimer CSD after going to school here. I had an amazing experience as a student here and am extremely excited to now be a part of the staff.
