Utica police officer speaks to Middle School students about diversity, respect

Utica Police Officer Wesley Jackson was a guest speaker for Herkimer Middle School students on Friday, Jan. 26, to talk about diversity and respecting one another despite differences such as race, ethnicity, height, weight and hair color.

Officer Jackson is a former assistant basketball coach at Proctor and currently helps run Wilson’s Cops and Kids Gym in Utica.

He shared his personal story in regards to giving and receiving respect, as well as disrespect. He also shared what he sees on the street as a result of disrespect between people.

As you can see from the pictures, our students were intrigued with his story and his message and were eager to ask him questions and share their own stories with him.
