May 2026 Senior Student of the Month

The Student Council decides monthly student and teacher awards with a specific category each month. The category for May 2026 was “spring athlete” for students and “most deserving” for teachers.

The Senior Student of the Month awards go to two seniors per month who are nominated and voted on by Student Council members in grades 9-11.

The High School Teacher of the Month award goes to one teacher per month who is nominated and voted on by Student Council members in grades 9-12. All Teachers of the Month become eligible to become Teacher of the Year in June.

The May 2026 Senior Students of the Month are Alana Schlappi and Cole Bolen, and the May 2026 High School Teacher of the Month is Emily Schumske.

Below is a Q&A with Cole Bolen, whose spring sport is golf with Coach Rosenburgh:

Q. What classes do you enjoy the most, and what makes them stand out to you?

A. I enjoy history classes the most. They stand out to me because I find the events of the past very interesting, and we can learn from the past to make a better future.

Q. How do you manage your time between academics and sports?

A. I use my study halls efficiently and for doing my work.

Q. What position(s) do you play, and how many years have you been involved in your spring sport?

A. I am a golfer, and I have been playing for three years.

Q. What achievement or moment in your athletic career are you most proud of?

A. Breaking 50 at the Leatherstocking Golf Course against Cooperstown.

Q. In your opinion, what qualities make someone a strong teammate?

A. Someone that doesn’t lie about their score and is willing to learn.

Q. What is an important lesson you’ve learned from your coach or sport that will stick with you?

A. The most important space is the 6 inches between your ears.

Q. What are your plans after graduation (college, trade school, military, career, etc.)?

A. I plan on attending Herkimer County Community College for two years, then transferring to SUNY Potsdam to become a history teacher.

Q. Who motivates or influences you the most, and why?

A. My brother both motivates me and influences me in every aspect in my life because of how successful he is and how knowledgeable he is.

Q. What advice would you share with younger athletes?

A. The same advice Rose told me: that the most important space is the 6 inches in between your ears.

Q. If you had to sum up your high school experience in three words, what would they be?

A. Fun, fast and unforgettable.
